Setting goals beyond transplant.

I have a question for those of you who are waiting on a transplant. What plans or goals do you have after you receive this wonderful gift? It’s a good question and one that I never really thought of until later on in my journey.

It was 2015 when one of the care team helped me set a goal beyond transplant. I have wrote about this before but here is a quick summary of what happend. I had received a new job in a water treatment plant as a maintenance tech and I was so excited. One of the reasons for the excitement was due to I loved water treatment since 18 due to one man named Ted Cooksey. Who helped shared with me the benefits of clean drinking water and also had such a passion for it that he also sparked that within me as well. Also it helped that the schedule was easier at that job than where I was employed at the time. Anyhow to make a long story short she mentioned biomedical for dialysis and that there could be a possibility of a job coming open in two years.

From what she told me a biomed takes care of the dialysis machine and medical equipment as well as the water treatment for dialysis. This was exciting to me because if I were to get a job as a biomed I would be able to take my love for water treatment and combine it with my purpose to help those on dialysis. With all this in mind I set 2 goals to be ready for the job which included…. 1.Learning as much as I could about water treatment at the job that I had just obtained. 2. Get a transplant before the job became available.

Within 2 years I did receive a transplant and also received the job as well. By setting goal beyond the transplant itself it gave me a greater purpose in life and it changed how I looked and thought about transplant.

What about you do you have a goal set that is beyond a transplant. Or you may not even need a transplant but you want to own a business for example. What ever you may be trying to obtain is there a deeper goal beyond the initial goal that you have set? If you have a goal beyond the first my friend you can do as Zig Ziglar said “Go as far as you can see and when you get there you will always be able to see further.
