I am always on the lookout for a great story and when I first heard Jim “The Rookie” Morris speak on a video I knew that there had to be more to the story. After listening to the speech, I started looking for more materiel from “The Rookie”. It was not long until I found out he had a book Called ” Dream Makers Surround Yourself with the Best to Be Your Best. I ordered myself a copy and here is my thoughts on it and as Paul Harvey use to say and now you know the rest of the story.
Jim ” The Rookie” Morris is famous for making it to the MLB through a deal he made with a high school baseball team he coached. The deal was if the team won the district championship Jim would find a baseball tryout and follow his dream. Though out the book I laughed and got a little teary eyed but through the whole book Jim shared how he achieved success.
Dream Killers don’t have the stamina to do the work necessary to succeed. In chapter 5 Jim talks about dream killers or those that you know that don’t want you to succeed. True to their title they love to see other people fail and they will do anything that it takes to ensure that happens. Jim was no exception he too had dream killers from his coach to his father. This chapter really touched me as I to have experienced both people I called my friends and family that have been dream killers in my life and this helped me to understand more about them, how they think and why they do what they do.
In chapter 6 Jim share about Dream Makers and in a twist to his story he saw one person as both a dream killer and a dream maker. Jim also talks about his wife and the importance of having a companion that will stand by you through the best and worst of times and how this can help you to achieve your dream.
In the last few chapters Jim shares the lessons he learned from some of the most difficult challenges that he faced and how he overcame them and most importantly how to become a dream maker.
I give this book a 5-star rating and a must-read book to put in your library. As I believe it can help you on your journey of life. It can help you to understand that age is not a limit to finding your purpose in life and that sometimes it takes a few others to believe in you to achieve greatness.
